Flame Computing Enterprises was established in 1998 as a software development and support company. During the early years Flame developed a realtime messaging system used in the Pharmaceutical industry for online dispensing based on proprietary messaging protocols. This system was used in over 2000 pharmacies sending claim messages at a rate of over 60000 messages per hour during peak times. These messages typically being responded to in less than 30 seconds from a multitude of medical aid administrators.

During the mid 2000s Flame extended their messaging solutions to include the RosettaNet protocol providing a B2B solution for the Petroleum Industry. Over the next few years Flame extended the messaging system, now called FMS, to incorporate the OASIS ebXML MS V3.0 standard, and over the past year to incorporate the OASIS ebXML AS4 standard, as well as the IETF STD69 EPP protocol.

Flame joined the OASIS group in 2011 and members of Flame have been actively involved both in the OASIS ebXML Messaging Technical Committee as well as having participated in OASIS interoperability webinars and conferences.

Since 2012 the Flame FMS AS4 Server and Light Client have achieved Drummond Certification, AS4 e-SENS Certification and SuperStream Gateway Compliance. The Flame FMS AS4 Product Range is the industry standard and choice for AS4 Gateway and Client Solutions.
